The third issue fo proceedings of the programme Study of the Status and Trends of Migratory Bird Populations in Russia includes the results of the studies carried out in 1998 and 1999 by Russian researchers under contract with the Migratory Birds of the Western Palearctic Association (OMPO, France). By their subjects these works may be divided into two parts: the results of the study of bird migrations and the results of the study of bird breeding success in several regions of Russia. The area of the observations are the North-Western and the Central areas of European part of Russia (see maps reproduced on the fly-leaves). Besides, the issue contains a paper by Nadezhda A. Vassiljeva with the results of observations of the Barnacle Goose Branta leucopsis migration at an earlier period (1992-1993).
